Peter writes, "As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house." (1 Peter 2:4-5). Jesus is building a spiritual house of living stones by inviting people of every ethnicity to respond to the gospel. But sometimes the stones seem to fashion themselves into walls of exclusion rather than inclusion. This conference is aimed at helping InterVarsity students to collaborate with Jesus rather than resist him.
But what does this look like? What does it mean to be multiethnic? Are ethnic specific chapters a good thing? Can we have authentic race conversation? Is this whole thing just some exercise in political correctness? How can our chapter take steps in the multiethnic journey? These questions and others you have are why we are doing this conference.
Some things we are planning:
- getting the Bibles view of ethnicity -- whether Asian, Black, Latino, Caucasian, multiracial, international, or something else, it is good and to be celebrated!
- acknowledging our ethnic brokenness and the hope of restoration in Christ, the reconciler of all
- multi-ethnic worship and speakers
- ethnic food and party(s)
- prayer room
- a hotel that is nice
- spoken word, dance, art, and a Barbershop quartet
So join us and chapters from West Virginia, Ohio and Western Pennsylvania for a fun, serious, worshipful weekend, where we learn what it means to relentlessly pursue chapters on our campuses that look like the multiethnic kingdom around Jesus throne, "declaring the praises of him who called us out of darkness into his marvelous light."
